John Turner Medal

The John Turner Medal will be presented to an excellent researcher who has made an outstanding major contribution to the field of social psychology in Australasia.

Candidates for the Medal will be SASP members who are selected by a committee of the past president, current president, and president-elect of SASP (i.e., Bill von Hippel, Nick Haslam, Kate Reynolds respectively).

The winner of the Medal will present the John Turner Lecture at the 2017 SASP conference in Melbourne (April 20-22).

SASP is delighted to announce that the recipient of the 2015 John Turner Medal is Professor Norman Feather, Foundation Professor of Psychology at Flinders University in South Australia. He is well known for his high profile work on social norms and his research on ‘the tall poppy syndrome’. His influential book ‘Values, achievement, and justice: Studies in the psychology of deservingness’ was published in 1999.

2013:

SASP is delighted to announce that the inaugural recipient of the John Turner Medal is Professor Marilynn Brewer from the University of New South Wales. Professor Brewer’s many contributions to the field of social psychology include her work on social identity and the theory of optimal distinctiveness.
